The program allows eligible first time homebuyers to convert 20 percent of the mortgage interest paid throughout a year into a tax credit with the remaining 80 percent remaining as a tax deduction.

- The January 2012 Mortgage Bankers Association quarterly and annual forecast product for the 30-year fixed rate mortgage depicts average rates reaching 4.3 percent by the end of June 2012. The average forecasted rate for 2012 is 4.3 percent which is 1-tenth of a point higher than the December forecast for 2012.
